Ellingham & Ringwood - H - Score 6-3
Mat Norton 2 pens.
After our substantial loss at Ellingham and Ringwood earlier in the season we were keen to welcome our near neighbours to The Rec to see if we could make amends.
The game got underway despite the referee twisting his knee in his own warm up and it was obvious from the start that both sides were very much up for the match.
The opening score came from a penalty when Fordingbridge were adjudged to have gone off their feet and we were three points behind.
This was quickly negated when we were awarded a penalty which Mat converted. It is fair to say that the first half was very much an even affair and that the half time score of three all was a true reflection of the play.
However, in front of a very large crowd of both home and away supporters, Fordingbridge upped their game and following another penalty conversion we took the lead.
Despite a huge amount of pressure from E & R in the last quarter we held on for the win, and were of course absolutely delighted. The game was played with passion, pride and in great spirit and Ellingham and Ringwood were magnanimous in defeat and we thank them for that.
It was all in all a great game of rugby played between two friendly rival clubs. One which we will all remember not only as a good win but more importantly, as a game that was a fitting tribute to Tony O'Connell our much loved President who tragically passed away early on Sunday morning. We will all miss his vocal encouragement, advice, humour and laughter on the touchline.
